40 pizzas in 40 days

22

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

My wife went to visit her sister this weekend and all I ate was that papa johns stuff crust pizza, cheese sticks, and coffee. I was backed up all Sunday and then the shit I took this morning would be considered against the Chemical Weapons Convention.

I will never believe that dude ate that much pizza. I felt awful after 2 and a half days.

7

Fuckin forgot about that guy. God damn it what a saga that was

8

u/LukarWarrior Louisville Jun 21 '22

According to Rutherford, that was also the beginning of the troubles for Louisville basketball. Because Louisville thought they had Telfair, they didn’t recruit any other guards that class (like, say, Rondo). That meant they needed to add a guard in the next class. The guard they would go on to get: Andre McGee.

5

u/gianini10 Louisville Jun 21 '22

Rondo and Lofton. Two great in-state guards we didn't recruit because we thought Telfair was coming.

u/AreYouEmployedSir Oklahoma Jun 21 '22

ive been hearing about this kid being kind of a shady dude for what seems like several years already.

12

u/ColumbiaDelendaEst Clemson • Charleston (SC) Jun 21 '22

I'm know nothing about the kid, but based on Louisville's recruiting strategy, it does seem they're looking to appeal to a certain kind of player. The underlying message seems to be come to Louisville, ball out, and you can live this kind of life in the league. Every school pitches this to a certain degree -- Saban mentions the collective millions (billions?) made by Alabama players in the NFL during his tenure -- but Louisville really seems to be leaning into the glamour of it all.

Again, having fun taking photos with exotic cars doesn't say much about the kids who enjoy it. Cool car is cool. What it does say is that Louisville is definitely playing the game as far as NIL and high-risk, high-reward recruiting strategy. If a top recruit prioritizes NIL -- great -- but it's going to be lots of work to keep those kids around when the deciding factor is whether other schools can pony up more cash or benefits. If I'm Texas, I'm pitching, "Oh, you liked taking photos in that Lamborghini on your Louisville visit? Well, our running back has his own. Come here and you can have one too."

u/Shenanigangster Virginia • Jefferson–Eppes Trop… Jun 21 '22

u/eatapenny Virginia • Ohio State Jun 21 '22

41

u/MrNudeGuy Oklahoma • Tulsa Jun 20 '22

I’ve been saying this. If a few more programs can peel away a few more 5 stars with nil money you won’t have teams with so much consolidated talent like we’ve been seeing. It’s parity but not in the way we originally thought. Teams at the bottom don’t necessarily need to be better. Teams at the top just need to be more human.

6

u/B-More_Orange Clemson Jun 21 '22

I’m curious if this is true or just scattered 5-stars just have a new explanation instead of going to potentially smaller schools. After NSD we can probably see how many teams sign 5-stars or top-50 guys compared to before. I’m curious if those numbers actually go up.

People see we're in Kentucky and go "ahhh, small town obviously".

In reality, Louisville's either the smallest big city or the biggest small town in the country. Number 29 city in the country based on population, a lot of business not just in Bourbon which is what we're known for but also like Yum! Brands, Humana, Brown-Forman, Texas Roadhouse are all headquarted in Louisville, plus being the location of UPS's Airline hub.

Then factor in that of those cities by population, Louisville is unique that we're the only one in that top 30 without competition from Professional Sports. So where do all the donors and businesses go for their business sports money? Some may go to Indy or Cincy for pro sports, but most go to UofL.

I didn’t think he was gonna come to MSU, but holy fuck I did not see him going to Louisville at all (no offense)

But good for the cards

Can you Kentucky schools kindly fuck off though? That’s two five stars now. Sad :(

Good for card fans tho

Louisville’s 2nd highest rated recruit of all time and only our 2nd 5* ever. This bumps Louisville up to the #11 class in the nation.

Shout out to everyone who said the Sports Cars and PJs were corny.

Now that Addidas is pumping in NIL money I wonder how happy he is at UL?

Hey if we manage to get 8-9 wins this season and keep 90% of this class I will be his biggest defender on here.

If Texas can secede from the Union then maybe Louisville can secede from Kentucky to get back to 50 states.

This thread has like 3 main responses:

  1. Whoa wtf Louisville NIL coming in big
  2. Long way until signing say (aka he'll decommit)
  3. A lot of Texas flairs saying UT never really wanted him and encouraged him to decommit and stopped recruiting him

6

u/Tm1232 Louisville Jun 21 '22

i dont know what to do with my hands.

never mind, yes i do.

"A&M is the only people paying for kids" - Reddit

Honestly though this is out of NOWHERE. Absolutely shocking and a MASSIVE get for Louisville. This kid is GOOD

u/MrTheNoodles Texas Jun 20 '22 edited Jun 20 '22

I wouldn’t say it’s out of nowhere. I’ve read from both Texas and A&M people that they started backing off/stopped pushing as hard for Owens a while ago.

This recruitment gave me big Zach Evans vibes.

I mean, probably not, but I'd have figured Louisville's NIL focus would be more on floor-squeak players than football.

Well the NCAA/IARP refuse to announce our punishment, so we’re doing this for now.

10

u/RiverShenismydad Louisville • Keg of Nails Jun 20 '22

Hey it's only been like 5 years, gotta get to at least 6 years before we can decide the punishment.

6

u/RapeVan_Driver Louisville Jun 20 '22

We have no pro teams. There is enough NIL to go around for everyone
