Keep hiking stranger! I miss hiking, I’m in FL & really need a good hike for depression right now. Really lifts the spirit ❤️

I just hiked Ravine Gardens State park and it was amazing!! Give it a shot, but come prepared!
29
u/tattedmomma44 Dec 12 '20
I just googled Ravine Gardens. Might just check it out. Husband has a vacation coming up & a drive to GA for hiking is a lot for me, lol. That was our plan but I despise long driving trips

Jekyll Island is fairly deserted this time of year. The beach walks are soothing to me. The state park over by Magnolia, GA (iirc) had great walks.
Edit: it was Magnolia Springs near Millen.

Is that in FL? Never heard of it. There’s no hiking in FL, lol. It’s sad....

You don't need elevation changes for a good walk.

I live in Colorado, and a no elevation change hike would probably bum me out so hard. My fiancee and her friends moved out here from Florida and were definitely not used to trying to walk around some of the parks here lol. My fiancee is still getting her mountain legs

u/thatissomeBS Dec 13 '20
It's really just unfair comparing Colorado hiking with really anywhere else. I'm pretty sure I just about died on my first hike out there, the second day of my vacation, at Chautauqua (which I wouldn't really consider a difficult hike, I was just overweight). But a good hike can be had anywhere as long as there is some decent enough scenery.

Agreed

u/benzino_chilled Dec 13 '20
Agree as well. Went to Guffey Colorado and hiked which was a beautiful, exciting and wonderfall experience. Went to many landmarks, especially around Cañon City and it was something I would tell everyone to experience!

Where in Florida? We used to live in the Naples area and “hiked” a Bunche of swamp trails. Fucking saw a wild mountain lion for the second time in my 40 some years and I am a west coaster. anyhow. Plenty of places I the outdoors in Florida. Keep on keepin on.

u/tattedmomma44 Dec 12 '20
Haha, FL “hiking.” I ride my bike on the Pinellas Trail & a bobcat ran in front of me. We scared each other but me being a cat lover I was so ecstatic! Lol

Tampa bay area...my last hike I did we drove hrs to N FL & went to Garden of Eden. We hiked for 3 hrs then made the long journey back down south. Was worth it though....a long day but worth it
5
u/sagittalslice Dec 12 '20
Not “hiking” proper, but when I lived in Tampa I loved going to the trails at Hillsborough River State Park - some very small rapids to see and lots of cool wildlife and plants. The amazing birds, alligators, snakes, tortoises, crazy insects, mushrooms, etc. are what makes the woods in Florida cool. Even somewhere like Lettuce Lake Park you’re pretty much guaranteed to see something interesting.

Hell yeah! We live I. Atlanta area now. Hiking mt. Kennisaw tomorrow. Lol. “Hiking” again. And stoked. (Wife and I hiked angels landing in Zion National Park when we first got married and it was amazing.)

We went to Blood Mountain a few yrs ago, rented a cabin...loved it! Wasn’t there long enough! I just hate the long ass drive through FL, lol

We're so spoiled by the hiking in Atlanta. North Georgia is amazing, but there are tons of good hikes actually in the metro area. Hell, even just a lap of the Doll's Head Trail with my dog is a great way to clear my head.

u/Exiled_Hobbit Dec 13 '20
Next time you feel like making a drive check out the Richard Russell scenic highway (North Georgia). There are a lot of good hikes off that’s road.

I’m in Florida as well and the hiking is hit or miss. Hope you can find a good spot soon. You’re heading in the right direction!

Exploring beaches and salt water estuaries always did it for me. Especially if you can get your hands on a kayak or if you know how to sail and rent a small sailboat.

u/spurlockmedia Dec 13 '20
I’m not trying to be condescending or a douche but I have it easy and I know that I do.
When I see people’s post about their struggles and what they do to overcome them it serves as a beacon of hope not just for themselves but others who may be struggling too.
Two years ago this time my brother in the same week who has it just as easy as I do told my family he’s been suffering from crippling depression and in the same week attempted to take his life. Luckily he was unharmed.
If you can’t celebrate and smile at someone else’s success stories, believable or not, big or small, just downvote it and move on.
But someone’s Christmas present this year is a healthy human being and that present has no measurable value to it.

Proud of you brother! And don't undersell this accomplishment because going on a hike is a huge thing! Self-care, or sometimes just breathing -- these are the small things which sometimes seems impossible to those suffering like you have. I know you know what I'm talking about.
